We rely heavily on volunteers to help with the running and continued existence of the sanctuary. From providing exercise and human contact to our animals, to lending a helping hand, to being part of our fund raising team; our team of volunteers are the life blood of what we do.
All of our volunteers are rewarded with that feeling of being part of something that makes a difference to fellow animals less fortunate than ourselves. If you can give some of your time to help us, you too will find it a rewarding experience.
Some details of how you can help are given below, but there are many other possibilities - it all depends on you! Why not contact us to talk about how to become a volunteer? You must be over 18 years old (less if accompanied by an adult) to become a volunteer.
Dog walking
Dog walking is one of the most rewarding voluntary activities. Help exercise our dogs, provide that much needed kindly human contact and get fit at the same time! At the end of the walk, spending some quiet time with them helps relieve the stress of being in a kennel - they really appreciate it.
Cat care
Cats just love contact with people through play, grooming and affection. And if you can, helping feed and water them will make that bond even stronger.
Helping hands
We can always do with a helping hand. Helping the staff to clean kennels, mop floors or organise storage areas allows them more time to re-integrate those animals who have been badly mistreated.
If you have other skills which may be of use to us then we would be glad to hear from you. From helping with the administration of the office to basic DIY, we can easily find useful jobs for you.
Fund raising
You can support us directly by taking part in fundraising events either those that we organise or other sponsored events. Take a look at some of the events which have been organised in the past.
For sponsored events, such as the Great North Run, contact us about how you can represent us (and also advertise what we do).
Our events, such as fayres and car boot sales, need volunteers who can help set up, remove stalls and also being a face to the public.
Friends of Brysons
Do you want to help out but cannot spend much time at the refuge? Then why not become a Friend of Brysons? As a friend you can propose new fundraising ideas, volunteer for tasks (many of which you can do from home!), and give us feedback on events you might have visited. You participate as much as you want to without any pressure whatsoever. Go on, be our friend!
